Rien de tout cela ne devait arriver. Ça devait être la fête, ça devait être comme avant, l'insouciance heureuse de jeunes adultes, la vie promise à un bel avenir, de l'énergie à revendre, des projets, des rêves accessibles. Des familles sans histoire et un bonheur tranquille... Une soirée magnifique de début d'été. Un petit camp au bord d'un lac tout près de Granby. Quatre grands chums, les meilleurs amis du monde, viennent tout juste de terminer leur année scolaire au cégep. Ils fêtent leur année scolaire réussie, le début des vacances, la vie, le bonheur tout simple d'avoir toute leur vie devant eux. Au souper, ils ont un peu forcé sur la bière mais il faut bien fêter! Le plus ténébreux de la gang, Geoffroy, a un contretemps et doit quitter ses amis pour retourner au travail. Mais le party reprend de plus belle malgré cette défection. Plus tard en soirée, c'est le grand Lambert qui a eu la bonne idée, saugrenue et audacieuse : un tour de ski nautique à la belle étoile! Le bateau du voisin est là et on sait où la clé est cachée... Théo, le plus jeune, hésite un peu car c'est lui qui est mandaté pour aller chercher l'engin. Mais les deux autres se font convaincants. Une demi-heure plus tard, Théo est au volant du gros hors-bord. Lambert et Olivier slaloment sur l'eau calme du grand lac. La nuit sans lune a tout plongé dans un noir étanche. Théo, seul dans l'embarcation fait un virage trop près de la berge. Les cris joyeux des trois jeunes hommes se répercutent dans les montagnes, puis c'est un bruit infernal, sec, lourd. Les deux skieurs percutent le quai de plein fouet. Théo appellent ses chums : '' Vous êtes corrects, dude?'' Aucune réponse ne vient
