Yann Perreau Amazon.ca Western Romance, premier album de Yann Perreau, impose incontestablement une voix nouvelle dans la chanson francophone. L’ex-leader du groupe punk Doc et les Chirurgiens ne ressemble en effet à personne et ne craint pas la diversité. Urbaine, un brin cynique, indéniablement rebelle, plutôt noire que rose, cette Western Romance révèle un auteur-compositeur-interprète fort inventif. En 12 chansons évocatrices qui tantôt groovent, tantôt s’étirent de façon lancinante ("Soul Circus", "J’ai le goût de l’amour"), Perreau déroule un univers insolite et recherché, nourri de bossa-nova ("Fille d’automne"), de techno ("Génération kamikaze") et même de valse ("Cloudy Mélancolie"), qui rappelle parfois celui de Jay Jay Johanson ou d’Arno. Le jeune homme, qui ne manque ni d’audace ni d’idées, se paye même le luxe d’un hommage électronique à Richard Desjardins ("On m’a oublié"). Les arrangements subtils et travaillés de Gilles Brisebois, la guitare de David Brunet et la voix feutrée de Perreau donnent son unité à ce premier album étonnamment mûr. "Aller au bout, se dépasser ou engourdir et pourrir", chante- t-il dans "La Peur". L’artiste a visiblement décidé d’aller au bout… de lui- même. --Pascale Millo
