Violin Concertos

Dong-Suk Kang Amazon.ca Dong Suk Kang turns in an extremely successful performance of this extraordinarily difficult violin concerto. One of Elgar's very greatest works--much more open-heartedly emotive than the cello concerto--the only thing that keeps the piece from being more popular with violinists is it's extraordinary length. At about 45-50 minutes, it's easily the longest violin concerto in the modern repertoire, and all of the most difficult writing comes in the finale. That means that it requires endurance was well as the sort of comprehensive musicianship that all masterpieces demand. Kang surmounts all of the work's difficulties, tosses in a fine Sibelius concerto, and all at budget price. --David Hurwit
